Bernice Alice Abbott was an American photographist who lived from 1898-1991. She is most well known for her portraits that she took in New York City, photographing architecture and urban design. She is originally from Ohio but moved to New York and then Paris to study sculpting. She later became an assistant at the Man Ray Studio where she found her passion of photography, and mastered it. She has many collaborations and solo shows in both Paris and New York. After she lived in Paris she came back to New York where she discovered the transformation of the buildings landscape right before the Great Depression. She began a documentary of photographs of New York which she had support from the Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project which then deputed in 1939. It was a traveling exhibition which was called Changing New York. She changed how many people thought of portraits and landscapes, and how they looked at the ever-changing landscape and architecture of New York City. In 1970 she even got a career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.

Selfie/Self-Protrait

Selfie/Self-Portrait

For my selfies I just chose to take them all in snapchat using filters. I decided that I wanted them to be fun and colorful while my self-portrait is black and white. I found this project more difficult because there were a lot of final pictures. Also, using Fotor was pretty simple but it took some getting used to.

For the self-portrait I modeled it after the picture below. It is different in a lot of ways but I liked the way it is black and white and her hair is obstructing her face. I decided to take a picture through my chandelier and have some pieces of it obstructing my face and make it black and white.

Phone Photos

Phone Photos

For this project we had to use our phones for the first time. I found using snapseed pretty simple. I didn't use that much editing but I did use the focus tool on both. For the second picture of the cookie I used the smoothing tool for the picture. For the first picture of the pencil I used the brightness tool to light up the darker areas of the picture. I really enjoyed this project.
